William Lee Lyons, 82, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at home.

William was born in Davenport, Iowa, to William and Violet (Thompson) Lyons on February 19, 1941. He went to high school in Davenport, and later married the former Lynn F Blunt, the love of his life, on June 26, 1999, in Empire Park, East Moline, Illinois. They had a wonderful picnic wedding under a tree, and returned to have a picnic there for almost all of their anniversaries. He graduated from St. Ambrose University, and after graduating, worked as a supervisor for the Rock Island Arsenal for 27 years.

Bill loved airplanes. He built an ultra light plane and flew it for many years from the airport in Erie, IL. He was involved in many model plane flying clubs and contests. He won many awards for his model planes, both building and flying them. He was a very honest, brilliant, and charismatic guy, who loved to tease just about everyone. Bill was a great friend.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and stepson, Jason Blunt.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Shaun Keeven, his nurse Janet, and all the many doctors, nurses, and medical staff who cared for Bill. We also want to thank Liz, and all the Unity Point Hospice staff for all they did to make Bill’s last days better.
