Shirley was born April 13, 1958, in Rock Island, Illinois. She worked at Oscar Mayer for many years while also raising her children and taking care of other family members.
Family was the center of Shirley’s life. She cherished outings with her grandchildren and watching their various sporting events. She also loved taking trips to Kansas to see family. She will be remembered as a woman who always put others first and truly never met a stranger.
Shirley is survived by three children, Shawnte (William Jr.) Mess of Benbrook, Texas, Ranesha (Jeremy Pender) Vallejo of Silvis, Illinois, and D’Mico (Kacie Eagle) Vallejo of Muscatine, Iowa; seven grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Deven Mess, Nazario Vallejo, Samiah Vallejo, Davian Vallejo, Cadalyna Cross, Dreyden Vallejo, and Eden Vallejo; her sister, Laura (Tony) White; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins with whom she was extremely close. She was preceded in death by her mother, Maxine Vallejo; her grandmother, Harriet Vallejo; and several aunts and uncles who were important in her life.
The family would like to thank everyone at UnityPoint Hospice and University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, as well as Ana, Rosie, Lisa, Kim and Sally, for the wonderful care given to Shirley.
We celebrate her life, her laughter, and unwavering spirit. A warrior now at rest but forever alive in our hearts!
