Sarah “Jo” J. Gibbs, 101, of Alpha, Illinois, passed Friday, June 26, 2026, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. A celebration of life and inurnment will take place at a later date in Lime Springs, Iowa.
Sarah Josephine Schutte was born on June 24, 1925, in Howard County, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar Thomas and Mildred Lillian (Taylor) Schutte. She graduated from Cresco High School with the Class of 1943. On February 15, 1944, she married Myron Ziba Daily at his father's home in Cresco, Iowa. Together they spent 35 wonderful years raising their family before his passing on June 8, 1979. Jo worked in a variety of careers throughout her life, including with the Farm Bureau in DeWitt, Iowa, and ITT Autowise in Davenport, Iowa. She later found love again and married Allen "Fritz" Fitzgerald Gibbs on May 11, 1985, in San Diego, California. Together they enjoyed 18 years of traveling and retirement before his passing on August 11, 2003.
She enjoyed putting together puzzles and sewing. A true farm girl at heart, she appreciated the simple things in life. She was an exceptional cook and baker, especially when it came to her fried chicken, homemade breads, pies, and cinnamon rolls. She and Fritz looked forward to spending time in South Texas yearly and enjoyed traveling to many other destinations throughout their years together.
Jo is survived by her children, Mildred A. (Marilyn Jr.) Munn of Alpha, Illinois; Eileen L. Butner of Tipton, Iowa; and Thomas E. (Ann) Daily of Geneseo, Illinois; grandchildren, Michael T. (Amaya) Ellis, Jennifer Snyder, Kylene (Robert) Loughrey, Sarah Angle, Stephanie (Adam) Jacobs, and Samantha (Jon) Proctor; ten great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Myron Daily and Fritz Gibbs; parents, Thomas and Mildred Schutte; sisters, Julia Lloyd, Pearl White, and Pauline Schutte; son-in-laws, David Ogden and Michael P. Ellis; daughter-in-law, Dee Daily; and a grandson-in-law, Chad Snyder.
