Sally Ann French was born March 13, 1950, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Cecil and Melva (Fabricius) French. A proud graduate of Moline High School, Class of 1968, she began her career at Lutheran Hospital before venturing to California for several years. Upon returning home, she found her true calling with the City of Moline for 33 years, where she served as a dedicated dispatcher, later working in animal control and property services.
Sally lived life with courage, conviction, and creativity. She was a 2-time Silver State Champion in Taekwondo and earned a 2nd-degree black belt from the Military Arts Institution; an impressive testament to her determination. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she pursued hobbies like creating stained glass art and photography, including a personal darkroom. She loved music, books, beach trips, motorcycle rides, and simple afternoons catching up with friends and classmates.
Sally is survived by her husband David; children, Michael (Rachel) Hughes, Justin Small, and Brandon (Lacy) Small; step-children, Joseph Gordon and Pauline (Chris) Pender; grandchildren, Alex (Daniella) Ferrufino, Jennifer Hughes, Moira Hughes, Jonathon Hughes, Eleanor Hughes, Taylor (Lauren) Casillas, Justyn Appleby, Abbigail Appleby, Jaymin Gordon, and Kaydance Snyder; and 6 great-grandchildren; along with many other dear family members and friends who loved her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Donth; and half-brother, Burton Moen.
Sally will be remembered for her strength, compassion, and the joy she brought into every room. Her spirit will live on in all those who were lucky enough to know and love her.
