Rodger W. Johnson, Sr., 77, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026, at home.
Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 18, at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Vietnam Veterans of the Quad Cities will present military honors. Those wishing to attend are invited to line up in the parking lot at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, between 2:00 and 2:20 p.m. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.
Rodger Walter Johnson was born May 25, 1949, in Muscatine, Iowa. He served five years each in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force and went on to marry the love of his life, Mona Lamp on December 1, 1990. He enjoyed his career as a truck driver.
He loved fishing, models, playing euchre and poker, and never missed an opportunity to eat ice cream. He also enjoyed watching westerns on television, especially John Wayne. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Rodger, especially his beloved grandchildren.
Rodger is survived by his beloved wife, Mona; two sons, Floyd “Bubba” Johnson of Rock Island, and Anthony (Sarah) Johnson of Clinton, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and his brother, Rick Townsley. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicky Johnson; son, RW Johnson, Jr.; grandson, Joshua Johnson; three brothers; and three sisters.
