Raymond J. Ewoldt

Raymond J. Ewoldt, Jr., 86, of Davenport, Iowa, died Friday, February 23, 2024, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

Graveside services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 28 at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors.  Those wishing to attend should meet in the parking lot at Trimble Pointe, 701 12^th Street, Moline, at 10:45 a.m. The family will host a luncheon immediately following graveside services at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe (Lower Level). Memorials may be made to any veterans organization.

Raymond John Ewoldt, Jr. was born August 9, 1937, in Davenport, to Raymond Sr. and Henrietta (McMasters) Ewoldt.  He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and married the love of his life, Judith Allison, on September 28, 1957, in Keokuk, Iowa.   

He owned Ewoldt and Sons Construction for many years before retiring and working part time for the YMCA and as facilities manager at Meadow Crest Apartments.  

Ray was a horse and dog lover.  He bought his first horse as a teenager without his parents knowing about it.   More recently, he bought a pony, “Shorty” for his beloved grandchildren.  He loved working his hands and building things.  In his younger years, he was a skilled boxer with the Pena Boxing Club and in later years enjoyed watching boxing.  

Ray is survived by his beloved wife of over 66-years, Judy; three children, Michael (Dawn) Ewoldt of Bettendorf, Debra (Jerome) Freese of Davenport, and Kenneth Ewoldt of Cherokee, Iowa; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Paulette Leonard of Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard J. Ewoldt; a grandson, Robert “Rob” J. Ewoldt; sisters, Georganna Clapp and Inez Reed; and a step-brother, Eugene (Thelma) Ewoldt.
