Joy Cecelia Nabb, 87, of Coal Valley, passed on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Celebrate Senior Living, Moline. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of the Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Burial of the urn will be in Coal Valley Cemetery.
Joy was born on November 22, 1938, in Moline, to Amie and Bernadine (Krapp) VanOoteghen. She was united in marriage to William Nabb on April 25, 1959 at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Together they raised four children.
Joy was a talented artist. She loved oil painting, especially with her group at paint classes, and the “discussions” afterwards at Hafners. Many of her paintings included those of her much loved pets, Shamrock, Liberty, and Rosey. She also enjoyed crocheting and made many blankets gifted to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and others she loved.
Joy lived her entire life in Coal Valley. In addition to being a homemaker, she at one time served as a community correspondent for the Dispatch-Argus and a member of the Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Later, she volunteered at the Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan IL.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Bill Nabb; sister-in-law Delores Harding of Camanche IA, children, Mike (Paula) Nabb of Moline, Kristan Myers of Elburn IL, Tom Nabb of Coal Valley, and Lee (Fujuan) Nabb of Lexington KY; 10 grandchildren; 3 “bonus” grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Joy’s life for family and friends will take place Sunday, July 26th from 1-4pm at the Old Oaks Winery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joy’s memory may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center or a charity of your choice.
