John C. Small, 83, of Davenport, Iowa, died Saturday, October 14, 2017, in Good Samaritan Center, Davenport.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities, Moline, Illinois. Private family services will be held at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, and entombment will be in the Columbarium at Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society.
John Carl Small was born December 31, 1933, in Davenport, to Carl and Zoe Watson Small. He married Joan Nielson in 1955 and they were later divorced. He served in the US Air Force, and was manager at Eagle Food Stores. He was a member of Davenport Elks Lodge and United Food and Commercial Workers. He had been a scout master, loved living on the river and watching the eagles, and enjoyed stock car racing and collecting toy tractors. Growing up, he competed in Silver Skates Competition in Davenport.
John is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Joyce Small of East Moline, Illinois, and Jon and Gretchen Small of Eldridge, Iowa; three grandchildren, David (Kate) Small, Sarah Small, and Maria Small; a great-grandson, Kellen Small; and a special friend, Ramona Crossen of Muscatine, Iowa.
