Frances (Tanny) Curry

March 6, 1934 — May 14, 2020

Frances (Tanny) Marie Curry passed peacefully on the 14th of May, 2020, at her daughter and son-in-law’s house in Eldridge, Iowa. She was 86 years old. She had lived with them for the past 6 years.

Tanny’s journey started on the 6th of March 1934 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. She is the daughter of Evelyn and Bob Christiansen. She grew up in Excelsior and graduated from high school there.

Tanny met the love of her life, Leo Curry, at the “Hall of Waters” swimming pool in junior high. They married after high school on the 24th of March in 1953. Early in their marriage they lived in Alaska and Texas as they followed Leo’s military commitment in the Air Force. They settled back in Excelsior close to family and friends. You rarely saw one without the other.

Tanny was a homemaker and worked part time at the local bowling alley for many years. She was an accomplished bowler winning both a Kansas City championship and first in a Missouri State Tournament.

She was a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan and was ecstatic when they won Super Bowl LIV. Along with spending time with family, she loved watching the Kansas City Royals, reading, crocheting, bowling, fishing, and riding a motorcycle with Leo.
Tanny’s children and grandchildren were her heart and joy. Her grandchildren fondly referred to her as their “Grams”. She loved her “grand-babies” most of all. She and Papa Leo spend many hours at the library and parks with them. They also spent a lot of weekends traveling to support their sporting events.
Those left to miss her love, smile and wit include her son, Ken Curry (Janice) of Plano, TX, her daughter, Lynn Arthur (Bill) of Eldridge, IA, grandchildren Paige Howard (Tyler) of Solon, IA, Jake Arthur (Kelsea) and great-granddaughter Kennedy Jo of Davenport, IA. Tanny also had many nieces, nephews and friends that will miss her as well.

Loved ones passing before her include her husband Leo, parents and brother Bill (Buddy) Christiansen.

Cremation services will be carried out per her wishes. A small family celebration of life service will be held at a later date after the world has settled from the COVID 19 pandemic. Those wishing to honor her life can contribute to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. Their loving, dedicated staff cared for Tanny during her last few months at home. The support they provided to her family was a blessing.
