Cecil E. Baker

Cecil E. Baker, age 96, of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the home of his daughter in Moline, IL.

Cecil was born October 14, 1923, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of William “Dewey” and Clara (DeBarr) Baker. He was a World War II Veteran serving his Country in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. He was highly decorated. Cecil attended DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago and later worked as an Electronics Engineering Technician until his retirement.

On July 3, 1947, Cecil married Margaret Staib at her parent’s home in Saginaw, Michigan. Marge passed away on March 31, 2008.
Marge and Cecil were members of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mt. Prospect, IL for over 60 years. Cecil enjoyed coaching sports, watching the Cubs, gardening, fishing and bowling. He bowled in many leagues well into his 80’s.

Cecil is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane Baker-Wood and Doug Wood of Moline; five grandsons, David (Brandy) Baker of Trevor, Wisconsin, Matthew (Maureen) Baker of Antioch, Illinois, Kyle (Kiki Kruse) Wood of Chicago, Luke (Abby Swift) Wood of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jed (Matilda Hoeg) Wood of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Kaylee, Avery, Landon, Grayson, and Oliver; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Marty Baker; a great-grandson, Noah Baker; and sisters, Margaret Boyer and Shirley Heath.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorial Services will be at a later date followed by burial in Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery, Cary, Illinois. Memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Mt. Prospect, IL.
