Brian M. Van Winkle, 61, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, April 5, 2021, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Rock Island National Cemetery.

Brian Martin Van Winkle was born February 2, 1960, in Moline, the son of William and Donna (Carson) Van Winkle. He graduated in 1978 from Alleman Catholic High School in Rock Island. He then joined the U.S. Air Force eventually being stationed in Germany and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He married Lisa (Gibson) Daw on October 30, 1998, in Rock Island. He was retired from PB Leiner USA in Davenport as a customer service representative.

Brian was a very talented musician and was inducted into the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 with the band, Crusin’ out of Muscatine, Iowa as a bass player with fellow musicians/brothers, Max Allan Collins, Steve Kundel, Jim Anson, and Jim Van Winkle. Since he retired, he enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo for family and friends around the campfire at his cabin.

Brian is survived by his wife, Lisa; a son, Matthew (Ann Elyse) Van Winkle of Galesburg, Illinois; two step-children, Greg (Mina) Taets of Parker, Colorado, and Heather (Karl) Kostecki, of Centennial, Colorado, and their children; his grandson, Carson Van Winkle (and his mother, Kristen Christenson) of Davenport; a brother, James Van Winkle of Muscatine, Iowa; a half-sister, Marie Beshear of Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Patty Samuels of Keokuk, Iowa; sister-in-law, Tammy (Terry) Allen of Keokuk; a brother-in-law, Mike (Suzanne) Gibson of Arkansas; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and his ‘Bam fam. He is also survived by his beloved fur babies, Frankie (pictured), Missy, Kasey, Callie, Polly, and Rusty.
