Betty J. Marshall

January 15, 1943 — April 4, 2024

Bettendorf, Iowa

Betty Jean Marshall, 81, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Thursday, April 4, 2024, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born January 15, 1943, to Ambrose and Jean (Leigh) Woreck, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Betty was an animal lover, caregiver, and possessed a deep appreciation for nature.  She took great pride in her children and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In her younger days Betty was an amazing athlete. She set many track and field records in the state of Wisconsin, and was an Olympic level speed skater.  She continued to enjoy staying active throughout her life. Professionally, she worked as a drug and alcohol counselor and  was very proud to celebrate 39 years of sobriety.

Betty was known for being fearless and independent, while remaining sensitive and compassionate.  Her strong-willed and at times stubborn nature undoubtedly helped her through life's challenges.  Her love knew no limits and she often expressed that through thoughtful gifts.

She is survived by her children, Sarah (Mark) Breon, Kathleen Luken, Timothy (Laura) Luken, Steven (Joette) Luken, Bonnie (Stan) Moore, Kerrie Lowery, and John (Lori) McCartin; her grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Natalie, Eric, Bryce, Emily, Ryan, Kyle, Rachel, Macy, Molly, Kennedy, Abigail, and Sean; 12 great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Poncho. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Paul Marshall.

Betty's departure from this world leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of her family.  The following quote represented her thoughts on life:  "There is nothing greater in life than loving another and being loved in return, for loving is the ultimate of experiences."

The family would like to thank Betty's many friends, neighbors, and care providers who offered support during the final years of her life. She loved and appreciated each of you.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Condolences may be shared at CremationQC.com.
