With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Betty Elsey, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and active member of her community. Betty passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, at Temple Baptist Church, 3526 N Brady St., Davenport, Iowa.  Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.  Memorials may be made to the church.

The former Betty Joyce Moore was born December 31, 1955, in Friars Point, Mississippi, the daughter of Ethel Lee Jr. and Cordelia (Moore) Moore.  She married Michael Elsey, and together they were blessed with two children before eventually parting ways.

Betty was a dedicated member of both Anchored in the Lord Ministries Church in Rock Island and Temple Baptist Church in Davenport. She tirelessly volunteered her time and talents for various church activities including children’s Sunday School. Betty's artistic abilities shone brightly through her paintings, drawings, short stories, and poems, bringing joy and inspiration to those around her. Her lemonade cake became legendary among friends and family, a testament to her culinary skills and generous spirit.

In the community, Betty was known for her kindness and compassion. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, embodying the true spirit of service and empathy.

Above all else, Betty cherished her family. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever.

Betty is survived by two sons, Bre’Aun (Amanda Christoffersen) Elsey, Sr., and Shaun (Michelle) Elsey, both of Rock Island; five grandchildren, Niesha, Estelle Cordelia, Bre’Aun Jr., Curtis, and Willow Elsey; siblings, Thadeus Earl Moore of Davenport, Levi Moore of Davenport, E. Lee Moore of Detroit, Michigan, Daniel Webster Moore of Davenport, and Clementine Malone of Spokane, Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Antoinette Moore-Holloway and Terry Moore; and grandparents, Sallie and Daniel Webster J.C. Moore, Lucille and Ethel L. Moore, Sr..
