Albert L. Elliott

November 12, 2017 — October 14, 2017

Albert L. “Bert” Elliott, 85, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.

A hospitality gathering to celebrate Bert’s life will be 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2017, at the Rock Island Elks Lodge, 2117 4th Avenue, Rock Island, where he was a 46-year member. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of the Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to the Hope Creek Care Center activity fund.

He was born September 6, 1932, in Moline, the son of Louis and Faye (Weir) Elliott. He married Sally Hartnett on December 20, 1952, in Galesburg, Illinois, and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for 8 years.

Bert worked for the Corps of Engineers as a mechanic, and was an engineer on the “Hercules” steam engine on the Mississippi, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed fishing, and was a jack of all trades who could fix anything. He loved “tinkering”, doing so even in his final days at the nursing home.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Sally; four children and their spouses, Terry and Patti Elliott of New Boston, Lisa and Tim Carpentier of East Moline, Randall Elliott of Taylor Ridge, and Joni Schlue of Andalusia; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jacob and Heather Elliott, and Jon Elliott, all of New Boston, Joseph and Stephanie Carpentier of East Moline, Amanda and Dr. Aaron VerHeul of St. Louis, Missouri, and Matthew Schlue of Chicago; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Avery, Grayson, Vivian, Isaac, and Ezra; and a brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Jan Elliott of Milan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Elliott, and a sister, Shirley Sands.
