Carol J. McDermott, 80, of Davenport, Iowa, died Friday, September 22, 2017, in Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.  A memorial service will be held on Sunday afternoon, October 22, 2017, at Heritage Church, Rock Island, with the time to be announced later. Private burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to 180 Zone Ministries.

The former Carol Jeanne Miller was born November 11, 1936, in Lockport, Illinois, to Roy and Dorothy O’Connor Miller.  She graduated from Moody Bible Institute with a degree in Christian Education, and married Rev. Thomas Wesley McDermott on October 9, 1971, in Boardman, Ohio. Prior to her marriage, she was a Christian Education Director at Bethel Baptist Church in Joliet, Illinois and then at Evangel Baptist Church in Boardman, Ohio. She later became Church Secretary at Grandview Church, Davenport, until her retirement along with her husband in October of 2007.

Carol enjoyed mentoring other women and was heavily involved in Womens Ministries, especially at Grandview Church.  She loved to sew but her greatest joy was spending time with her sons and their families.

Carol is survived by her husband, Thomas; sons and daughters-in-law, Eric McDermott of Davenport, Christopher and Kara McDermott of Olathe, Kansas, and Joel and Amber McDermott of Galesburg, Michigan; five grandchildren, Violet and Hudson McDermott, and Jackson, Nora, and Nicolas McDermott; and siblings, Robert Miller of Sawyer, Michigan, Beverly Miller of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Marjorie Miller of Indianapolis, Indiana.
