Cheryl L. Halloran, 72, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 11, 2019, following a most courageous two-year battle with cancer, surrounded by her family and beloved pets.
A gathering to celebrate Cheryl’s life will be planned for a later date. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to the family, RICOanimalshelter.org, or QCPAWS.org.
The former Cheryl Lauree Frederiksen was born August 17, 1946, in Moline, the daughter of Swain and Marjorie (Follett) Frederiksen. She married William Riley in 1964, Jerry Butler in 1969, and Timothy Hugh Halloran in 1998. Tim died on December 17, 2008.
Cheryl was a Registered Nurse, graduating Phi Theta Kappa, with a thirty-year career in Critical Care, the Emergency Department, and other specialty units, retiring in 2017. She volunteered at Niabi Zoo, was a microbiology, anatomy and physiology tutor, worked for Alice’s Upholstery at Sunset Marina, was a machinist at Standard Machine and Tool in Moline, and was a licensed cosmetologist.
Talented beyond belief, Cheryl was an accomplished tailor and seamstress, artist, and custom piece jewelry designer. She loved to sew and knit, and treasured everything about nature and the outdoors, including boating, camping, hiking, canoeing, and gardening. She enjoyed spending time resale shopping and antiquing, collecting beautiful shells and stones, photography, and even refurbishing an antique boat. Cheryl had a big heart, lived to help others, and enjoyed caring for her pets, who stayed by her side right up to the end.
Cheryl is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Rodney Traman of Taylor Ridge, Illinois; two grandchildren, Ethan (Sydney Santistevan) Traman of Carbondale, Illinois, and Kendra (Kory) Moffitt of Sherrard, Illinois; a great-grandson, Levi Evan Moffitt; siblings, Martin (Lynn) Frederiksen of Moline, Alan (Linda) Frederiksen of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Denise (Jeffrey) Parrott of Silvis, Illinois; her significant other, Robert Strickland; and many beloved nieces and nephews whom she adored.
